Eligibility

Student Members#

• Pre-school through high school (summer of high school graduation OK).
• Adult/post-high school graduate membership limited to specialty groups (Reed Rush, Endpin Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Flute Choir, Jazz Band), Ukulele groups, and the North Torrance Community Orchestra. Vacant seats in other groups may be filled as necessary for performance purposes only at the Music Director’s discretion.
• Verification of academic and citizenship eligibility, when required, must be provided for any nTyme event.
• Verification of school and/or parent approval, when required, must be provided to travel (for example, competition participation forms, Independent Study Contract, etc.).
• Placement in specialty groups is determined by the Music Director.

Orchestra and Specialty Group (student orchestra, adult community orchestra, and specialty group members)#

• Orchestra membership limits:
  • Youth Chamber Orchestra (NTYCO) - middle and high school students, elementary students eligible with Music Director approval; no adults
  • Youth Symphony Orchestra (NTySO) - elementary and middle school students only
  • Community Orchestra - elementary, middle, & high school students; adults eligible with Music Director approval
• At least 3 years experience in instrumental music with at least 1 year on current instrument.
• String players must be able to perform in Suzuki, Book 3 or equivalent.
• Wind players must be able to play 2 octave scales and have played through the second year band book at their school or equivalent.
• Dedication to attend rehearsals and performances.
• Able to play music at any given time during rehearsals.
• Positive attitude and effort in rehearsals and sectionals.
• Adult members may participate in specialty groups at the discretion of the Music Director.

String and Wind Ensembles (student members only)#

• No experience in instrumental music for beginning classes.
• Intermediate and advanced class placement to be determined by the Music Director.
• Dedication to attend rehearsals and performances.
• Able to play requisite level of music at any given time during rehearsals.
• Positive attitude and effort in rehearsals and sectionals.
